Your companions for every journey — from daily commuting to weekend rides
Rubena City & Trekking Tyres — your companions on every journey
Discover our comprehensive range of Rubena city and trekking tyres, combining almost 100 years of tyre-making experience with the modern demands of urban mobility and cycle touring. Since 1908 we have been making tyres in Náchod that accompany thousands of cyclists every day on their commutes to work, shopping trips and weekend rides.
Our city tyres are engineered for reliable commuting and urban riding — excelling in puncture protection, long service life and low rolling resistance. Ideal for everyday use, commuting to work, shopping trips and urban mobility. Trekking tyres offer versatility for both asphalt and lighter unpaved roads. Perfect for weekend rides, cycle touring, family outings and exploring your local area.
Who are our City & Trekking tyres for?
We offer tyres for every urban cyclist and cycle tourist — from daily commuters, through parents taking their kids to school, to weekend-ride enthusiasts. Our range includes tyres with Anti-Puncture protection, reflective elements for night-time safety, and a wide range of sizes from 12.5" children's bikes all the way to 29" and 700C adult bikes. Whether you ride a classic city bike, a trekking bike or a family carrier, you'll find a reliable tyre here.
All tyres are manufactured exclusively in the Czech Republic, in Náchod, with an emphasis on reliability, safety and long service life. For city tyres, resistance to everyday wear is critical — broken glass on bike paths, sharp kerb edges, nails and splinters. That's why we use quality materials, and many models feature a special Anti-Puncture protective layer.
We offer tyres in every standard size — 700C (28") for adult city and trekking bikes, 26" for classic bikes and smaller trekking bikes, and 24", 20", 18", 16" and 12.5" for children's and junior bikes. Every tyre is tested on Czech roads and paths so it can handle our conditions — from winter salt to summer heat.

How to pick the right tyre size?
You'll find the tyre size on the sidewall of your tyre in one of these formats:
- 28 x 1.75 — inch designation (28" diameter, 1.75" width)
- 700 x 38C — French designation (700 mm diameter, 38 mm width)
- 37–622 — ETRTO designation (37 mm width, 622 mm rim diameter)
The most common sizes for City & Trekking:
- 28" / 700C: Standard size for adult city and trekking bikes
- 26": Classic size, smaller trekking bikes, some city bikes
- 24": Junior bikes, smaller city bikes
- 20", 18", 16", 12.5": Children's bikes by age
Tyre width: Wider tyres (1.75–2.25") provide greater comfort and stability. Narrower tyres (1.5–1.75") are faster and have lower rolling resistance. For city riding and trips, widths of 1.75–2.0" are ideal.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Answers to the most common questions about city and trekking tyres
What is Anti-Puncture and does it really work?
Anti-Puncture is an extra protective layer inside the tyre that guards against punctures from sharp objects like broken glass, nails, splinters or sharp stones. It acts as a solid barrier between the tread and the tube. It significantly reduces the risk of punctures — by up to 70–80% compared with regular tyres in our tests. It doesn't mean 100% protection (a very sharp object at high speed can still puncture), but for everyday city riding it's a huge improvement. You'll especially appreciate it when commuting, when the last thing you want is a puncture on the way to work.
What's the difference between a city and a trekking tyre?
City tyres are optimised for asphalt — a smoother tread for low rolling resistance, a focus on puncture protection (Anti-Puncture) and reflective elements for traffic safety. Ideal for commuting and urban riding.
Trekking tyres are more versatile — a moderately defined tread pattern works on both asphalt and lighter paved roads, more rugged construction for cargo (backpacks, panniers), greater comfort over long distances.
Many models, however, are labelled City & Trek because they combine features of both categories and suit both town and trips.
Why do some tyres have reflective elements?
Reflective elements (reflex) on the tyre sidewall increase visibility at night and in low light. When car headlights hit them, the reflective strips light up and the driver sees you from a greater distance. This is critical for safety when commuting in winter months or in the evening. Many cyclists commute in the dark in the morning and return after sunset. Reflective tyres are a simple, effective safety device that doesn't run on batteries and requires no maintenance. We recommend them to anyone who rides even occasionally after dark or in reduced visibility.
How long does a city/trekking tyre last?
Service life depends on intensity of use, rider weight, tyre pressure and surface quality. With proper use and care:
- Daily commuting (20–30 km/day): 1–2 years or 5,000–8,000 km
- Recreational riding (weekends, occasional trips): 3–5 years or more
Tips for longer life: Maintain correct pressure, check the tread for cracks and damage, replace the tyre when the tread is worn or cracks appear. Quality Rubena tyres are designed for long life even with daily use.
