How to Ride Sustainably on the Czech Trail

Less waste, more riding. It’s not just a slogan, it’s the way we approach tyre production.

Every cyclist knows the moment. The tyre is worn, traction is fading, replacement is necessary. But what if that moment came thousands of kilometres later?
What if your tyre lasted through more races, more trails, more seasons and at the same time was made in a way that makes sense not only for you, but also for the world around you?

At Rubena, this isn’t science fiction. It’s reality built on three pillars: local production, advanced compounds, and technologies that extend tyre lifespan. Because sustainability isn’t just about recycling, it starts with making products that simply last longer.

Czech Production – Shorter Distance = Smaller Footprint

While most tyres travel thousands of kilometres from abroad before they ever reach your bike, Rubena tyres are made in Náchod, Czech Republic. And that makes a real difference to the carbon footprint.

What does that mean in practice?

Shorter transport distances – fewer emissions, faster delivery, better availability
Direct quality control – every tyre undergoes strict inspection
Transparent production – you know where your tyre comes from, how it’s made, and who makes it
Support for the local economy – jobs stay in the Czech Republic, preserving tradition and employment

Local production isn’t just about ecology – it’s a guarantee that you get a product developed and tested for European conditions.
No universal compromises. Just a tyre that works exactly where you need it.

Compounds That Last – Green Endurance & Matrix

Sustainability starts with the material. The longer a tyre lasts, the less waste it creates.
That’s why Rubena develops its own special compounds that combine performance with extreme durability.

All parameters are tested in our internal laboratory. We test tyre mileage under specific conditions, grip behaviour, pressure limits and optimal operating values. The quality of our compounds is ensured by the use of high-grade raw materials.

Green Endurance

A compound designed for long lifespan and low rolling resistance. You’ll find it in city and trekking tyres.

Why does it work?

  • Resistant to abrasion, maintains properties even after thousands of kilometres

  • Minimal rolling resistance – lower energy consumption

  • Stable performance – grip does not fade with gradual wear

Tyres such as Cityhopper, Flash or Hook use this compound.
The result? Longer lifespan, fewer replacements, less waste ending up in landfills.

Matrix DH

If you ride enduro or downhill, you know the demands placed on tyres. Sharp rocks, roots, hard impacts.
Matrix DH Compound is a highly grippy compound with extreme durability, designed exactly for these conditions.

In practice, this means:

  • Withstands very high loads on trail and enduro tracks

  • Maintains grip even in demanding conditions (wet, mud, roots)

  • Resists cuts and mechanical damage for longer

Tyres like Scylla or Monarch with this compound simply last longer.
And that’s exactly what you want if you take sustainability seriously.

Technologies That Protect

Sustainability isn’t only about materials. It’s about the overall tyre construction – how effectively it resists damage and extends tyre lifespan.

TEXTRA – Rubber-Coated Protective Fabric

A high-density textile that protects the entire tyre carcass from bead to bead. It increases resistance against sidewall pinch flats, abrasion and punctures.

Where can you find it?

Why is it important?
Every puncture means either repair or replacement. TEXTRA dramatically reduces the risk of punctures – extending tyre lifespan.
Fewer punctures = less waste.

Stop Thorn – Puncture Protection

An additional level of protection for city and trekking tyres. Rubena offers three versions:

  • Stop Thorn Smart (1 mm layer)
→ Basic protection for everyday urban use
  • Stop Thorn Advanced (3 mm layer)
→ Stronger protection for more demanding conditions

  • Stop Thorn Ultimate (5 mm layer)
→ Maximum protection – for cargo bikes, e-bikes and intensive city riding

Why is it sustainable?
Fewer punctures = fewer tube and tyre replacements. A simple equation that saves both money and materials.

4D Cargo Construction

A special four-layer protection designed for cargo and load bikes. Certified for speeds up to 50 km/h. Built for long distances and heavy loads.

Example:
The Donkey tyre – developed for the cargo sector, where load capacity and durability are critical. Thanks to the combination of Green Endurance MAX and 4D construction, it performs reliably even under extreme load.

A Second Life for Inner Tubes

Sustainability isn’t just about making things last longer. It’s also about what happens when they reach the end of their life.
That’s why Rubena actively supports the recycling of used inner tubes.

How does it work?

✅ Use of production waste from inner tubes – reused in manufacturing
✅ Material processing – rubber is recycled and reused directly in production, where leftovers and cuttings are processed again

It’s a small but important step. Because every inner tube that doesn’t end up in landfill is a step in the right direction.

Why Do We Do It?

Because sustainability is not a trend, it’s a responsibility.

Cycling is about freedom, movement and connection with nature. But the nature you ride through deserves respect. And that starts with the products you choose.

Every year we test new materials, improve compounds and look for ways to extend tyre lifespan. Because we believe the best tyre isn’t the one that sells fastest, but the one that lasts the longest.

What Can You Do?

✅ Choose tyres that last – invest in quality instead of frequent replacements
✅ Maintain correct pressure – it extends lifespan and reduces wear
✅ Inspect tyres regularly – timely repair is better than replacement
