Road & Gravel Tyres Rubena

Czech tyres for road racing, gran fondo rides, gravel adventures and bikepacking

Rubena Road & Gravel Tyres — where the asphalt ends, adventure begins

Discover the complete range of Rubena road and gravel tyres, combining nearly 100 years of tyre-making experience with modern technology for road and gravel bikes. Since 1908, when rubber production began in Náchod, we've been building tyres that handle both the smooth asphalt of race courses and the gravel roads winding through forest meadows.

Our Road tyres are engineered for maximum speed, low rolling resistance and outstanding grip on asphalt. Ideal for race road bikes, sport rides and everyday commuting. Our Gravel tyres open up new possibilities — combining asphalt speed with control on gravel and unpaved roads. Perfect for gravel racing, bikepacking, cyclocross and discovering new routes off the main roads.

Who are our Road & Gravel tyres for?

We offer a complete range for every type of rider — from racers chasing maximum performance on the road, through gravel enthusiasts exploring new routes, all the way to riders on e-bikes. In our lineup you'll find narrow race tyres for pure speed (700x23C), versatile 700x28C for both comfort and performance, wide 700x40C gravel tyres for terrain adventures, and even dedicated cyclocross tyres for extreme conditions in mud and sand.

All tyres are manufactured exclusively in the Czech Republic, in Náchod, with an emphasis on quality, precision and sustainability. Local production means strict quality control on every piece, support for Czech industry, and minimal environmental impact thanks to shorter transport distances. Our tyres ride under the historic brands Kudrnáč, Barum, Rubena and Mitas — each product carrying more than a century of rubber-manufacturing expertise.

We use the standard 700C (622mm ETRTO) size, compatible with most modern road, gravel and cyclocross bikes. Tyre widths range from 23C for pure road racing, through versatile 28C–32C, all the way to wide 38C–45C for gravel and adventure. Whether you ride a carbon race road bike or a steel gravel bike, you'll find the right tyre.

Why choose Rubena Road & Gravel tyres?

The advantages of Czech tyres for road and gravel

Low rolling resistance

Modern rubber compounds and optimised tread patterns minimise rolling resistance for maximum speed. Every watt from your legs is turned into forward motion, whether you're racing the clock or out on a long ride.

Road & Gravel versatility

From pure road tyres for asphalt through versatile all-rounders to aggressive gravel tyres for the most demanding terrain. One bike with different tyres = more adventure options.

Czech manufacturing heritage

Made in Náchod since 1908. The first Czechoslovak tyre rolled out in 1929. Strict quality control, precision craftsmanship and support for Czech industry. Every tyre is the work of experienced hands.

Puncture protection

Rugged construction with a puncture-protection layer. Fewer flats means more time on the road and fewer worries. Gravel tyres stand up to sharp stones and thorns.

Grip in any weather

Reliable traction on wet and dry asphalt, on gravel, mud and sand. Confident cornering and safe braking in every condition, thanks to carefully engineered tread patterns.

Great value for money

Professional-grade quality without paying a premium for the brand name. Affordable models for beginners and premium tyres for demanding riders alike. Czech quality at a fair price.

How to choose the right tyre for your bike?

Comparison by width and use

Tyre width has a major effect on ride characteristics. Narrow tyres are fast on asphalt, mid-widths deliver versatility, and wide gravel tyres open new adventures on unpaved roads.

How to pick the right tyre width?

Tyre width is given in the format 700 x XXC:

  • 700 = rim diameter in mm (standard for road/gravel)
  • 23C – 25C = narrow race tyres for maximum speed
  • 28C – 32C = versatile widths for speed and comfort
  • 33C – 40C = gravel tyres for mixed surfaces
  • 40C – 45C = wide gravel tyres for demanding terrain

Key factors when choosing:

  • Rim width: check the internal rim width (ideally 60–70% of the tyre width)
  • Frame and fork clearance: make sure you have enough space (min. 4–5 mm on each side)
  • Surface type: narrow tyres for asphalt, wide for gravel and unpaved roads
  • Tyre pressure: wider tyres = lower pressure = more comfort and grip

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Answers to the most common questions about road and gravel tyres

What's the difference between a Road and a Gravel tyre?

Road tyres are designed primarily for asphalt — they have a smoother tread or fine grooving, a narrow profile (23–32C) and a softer rubber compound for maximum road grip. Gravel tyres have a wider profile (33–45C), a more pronounced tread pattern with blocks for traction on gravel, and a more rugged construction against punctures. Gravel tyres are more versatile — they roll well on asphalt too, but they really shine on dirt roads where road tyres fall short.

Can I use wider gravel tyres on a road bike?

It depends on your bike's construction. Most modern road bikes can handle tyres up to 28–32C, and some endurance and all-road bikes can fit 35–38C. The key is to check clearance in the frame and brakes — you need at least 4–5 mm of free space on each side of the tyre. Also check your rim width — a narrow racing rim isn't ideal for wide tyres. Wider tyres offer greater comfort, better grip and the option to ride on light gravel.

What pressure should I run in road and gravel tyres?

Pressure depends on tyre width, your weight and the surface type.

  • Road 23–25C: 7–8 bar (100–115 psi) for lighter riders, 8–9 bar for heavier riders
  • Road 28–32C: 5–7 bar (70–100 psi)
  • Gravel 35–40C: 3–5 bar (45–70 psi)
  • Gravel 40–45C: 2.5–4 bar (35–60 psi)

Lower pressure = more comfort and grip; higher pressure = lower rolling resistance. On gravel, run lower pressures than on asphalt. Always respect the maximum pressure printed on the tyre sidewall.
