The South African stage race Cape Epic once again confirms its reputation as one of the toughest MTB races in the world. Extreme conditions, technical sections, and long hours in the saddle test not only the riders’ physical performance, but also their equipment.
The Czech team Superior Lions, consisting of Filip Adel and Vojtěch Neradil, has completed another demanding stage – 102 km with 2,250 meters of elevation gain, finishing in 26th place.
The second stage delivered everything:
- extreme dust and limited visibility
- technically demanding terrain
- frequent punctures across the field
- challenging logistics in open landscapes
The riders started the stage very well and stayed in contact with the leading teams during the first half. However, complications came in the second part in the form of a puncture, which cost them valuable positions.
“We had a solid first half, but the course was extremely demanding on equipment today and many teams were dealing with punctures. In the first two hours, we managed to take advantage of that and at times tucked in behind returning teams. The pace was strong, but in the second half we dropped back, and unfortunately we also suffered a puncture,” said Filip.
Cape Epic once again proves that it’s not only about legs, but also about the ability to handle critical situations and this is exactly where the right choice of tyres plays a key role.
This year again, our riders are racing Cape Epic on SCYLLA Racing tyres, which are designed specifically for these conditions.
Why SCYLLA?
Excellent grip on dry and hard surfaces → Essential in South Africa’s dusty terrain
High puncture resistance → Features Textra textile reinforcement protecting the entire sidewall and bead area
Janka Keseg Števková is missing this year
Janka Keseg Števková was also set to take part in this year’s edition and has long been one of the key riders associated with our tyres.
Unfortunately, due to a serious injury, she is unable to compete.
We wish her a speedy recovery and hope to see her back on the start line next year, once again riding on our SCYLLA tyres.
We keep going
Cape Epic is far from over. Each stage brings new challenges, new stories, and further proof that the right equipment makes all the difference and we are proud to be part of it.
